Site Massing

The Proposed massing shows organic forms for each business allowing it to grow and expand. There is a central business hub sharing staff catering, meeting rooms and offices

Traditional Expansion

There are two loading bays, one for goods in and the other is for dispatch. If the number of presses are increased and are they are positioned within the press hall.

Proposed Expansion

The diagram shows a method of expansion that will maintain loading and unloading positions (expensive dock levellers). Each process can be expanded while maintaining ideal workflow.

Overview

The building orientation was not ideal for solar gain (south east and south west). The cooling load for a design module was 2.9 KW/hr. The building had ribbon windows 1.2 m high and it did not comply with the revised Part L of the building regulation.

The height of the windows was increased to 2.7 m to enhance daylighting and reduce the electrical consumption. The cooling load was reduced to 1.4 KW/hr per module. The revised building passed the building regulations.
